I agree with your sentiment surrounding diversity, but unfortunately one must consider the perspective of a hiring manager. If two CVs possess the same level of education, and potentially skill, and one demonstrates vast experience, then that one will be exponentially more likely to secure the next stage in the process. With experience comes further knowledge that cannot be so easily gained in education.

I apologise if this all sounds patronising, but this is why I think freelance work, personal projects, and internships are vital to standing out.
